PBS Teachers in Second Life

A collaborative space for educators working on the Holiday Hunt!

CLUE: This man-made object is claimed to be seen from space (really... it's not... but there is some interesting history about that here.) While this structure was being built, if you disobeyed the Emperor, you would be thrown into the structure itself. Built centuries ago, this structure is still breathtaking and awe-inspiring. (Hint: The Summer 2008 Olympics were held in this country.)

Don't forget: Once you find this location in SL, take a snapshot of yourself and save it to your desktop. Upload your snapshot to your "My Page" in NING and attach as a file to your discussion post if you like.

And most importantly! Head to www.pbs.org and www.pbsteachers.org and search for some resources based on the same topic as the location (sim) you found!

Once you have your snapshot and resources, share these as a response to this discussion. Type in the "Reply to This" box below to share your PBS finds. Please make sure to include your SL avatar name.

Hi all,
The PBS resources for the Great Wall seem to be a bit scarce but there are a truckload of resources for China. There is a DVD available at: http://www.shoppbs.org/sm-pbs-chinas-great-wall-dvd--pi-3244981.html and a good looking math/SS lesson at: http://www.pbs.org/teachers/thismonth/china/index1.html

I wonder if PBS does or could link to Google Earth for this or other landmarks. Perhaps they could do a mash-up there if they have not already.

Incredible sim this one! This sim really shows some of the potential that SL would have for a Social Studies teacher! Just great.....

First resource is for the younger kids, but don't let the high school students fool you, they'd love it too! The second resource is an overview of a PBS series that gives the viewer an in-depth view of China itself.

For China there is no doubt the students would enjoy this lesson from Mathline on Magic Squares.
