Clue #8: Location honoring the 7th U.S. President

The crowds from last night have gone home. The party hats and the noisemakers are all cleaned up. Visitors can still go and pick up instruments to toot a horn and march through the square celebrating the first day of the new year if they like. See if you can find the spot that honors the 7th President of the United States and commemorating the battle that helped him get elected to the office. Don't forget, while you're there, make sure to stop in and enjoy some traditional local treats from Cafe du Monde.

Remember to take a picture of your avatar and post that along with some resources you find online from PBS Teachers and PBS.org.

This PBS Holiday Hunt has once again yielded an excellent resource that I can use in my classrrom. A search for Andrew Jackson resulted in many hits but the one that caught my eye was a Webinar. There is an entire set of Webinar lessons for American history at http://www.pbs.org/wnet/historyofus/teachers/index.html
I intend to make good use of this resource.

New Orleans: the utterly original American city that lies at the mouth of the mighty
Mississippi and at the beating heart of the great American experiment. . That'a how PBS summed up New Orleans. Very valid points there. Perhaps The Big Easy can help serve as a blue print for the recovery of America itself?

Clue #8 in the PBS Teachers in SL Adventure

Postcards from Buster comes through again with this gem.
Understand different cultural traditions by comparing children's activities in New Orleans with children's activities in your area, and explore how messages are sent with African drums. Practice using words in English about sequence (first, second).
