All roads lead to Rome! This location includes replicas inspired by many famous sites, such as the Forum and the Theater of Dionysus. Grab a free toga and a historical HUD to guide you through the location. Take a chariot ride tour or galley (boat) through the rivers. It is a location under construction… make sure to click on the pillars and things as you explore for notecards with extra information. There are other imitations in Second Life but none exactly like this.
Take some pictures of your avatar - assuming only the brave ones of you will don traditional garb. Then, head to PBS and PBS Teachers and see what kinds of resources could be used for educational purposes in your teaching.
There are plenty of PBS products regarding Rome, a dozen lesson plans but what I am drawn to the most on the PBS site are the interactive lessons. There is a family tree for the Dynasty of Augustus and a science lesson for investigating fire and connected to the Great Fire of Rome. For my future lessons, I will think to consult the PBS interactive lessons, especially.
For elementary I really came up short in terms of things age appropriate for our students. One resource that came up as a non-PBS site but recommended was A Europe of Tales.
